Working hard for the people of Wickersley

Virtual VE75

Wickersley Parish Council was determined that the Covid-19 'Lockdown' would not stop local residents making the 75th Anniversary of VE Day and the end of the Second World War in Europe.

The Parish launched a new Facebook page to provide local residents with all they needed for a 'Do it yourself / Do it at home' VE75!

The Poppy Trail

The Parish Poppy Trail involved 30 Large poppies being placed in locations around Wickersley. There was no specific route to be followed as, with Lockdown, it was important to ensure people were able to socially distance event when outside.

This proved really popular and there was a lot of chat and banter on the Facebook pages as people traded locations!!!

Said Cllr Sue Ellis, Chair of the Parish Council, "Of all the activities we organised and were held to mark VE75, I think that the highlight for many was the Parish Poppy Trail – many people and families joined in while taking their daily exercise and used that opportunity to discover hidden parts of Wickersley as they sought the elusive Parish Poppies!! And it proved a great way for parents to talk to their children about the Second World War whilst on a walk looking for Poppies"

Cllr Sue and John Healey MP delivered 'VE75 Afternoon Teas' to a number of people in Wickersley with the compliments of the Parish Council
